Wizard day’s Magical Markets are full of magical makes, appealing activities, curious crafts and wizardly wonders.
Visit the Maltings tucked in beside Wirksworth’s ancient Church Walk, make your own wand from an enchanted tree with a core of unicorn hair, dragon blood or feathers from a mystical phoenix. Will you choose your wand or will your wand choose you? Become a printmaking wizard in this mini workshop activity from Little Canyon Collective. Discover your spirit animal and make it magically reveal itself onto your own custom tote bag and art print. Visit the fortune teller to discover your spirit animal and magical abilities as she summons her cards...
Visit the Memorial Hall by the Memorial Gardens food area to have your face painted or browse and buy from a range of quite magical stalls selling a range of supplies for the discerning witch or wizard..

Meet Snakes, Dragons and Lizards
Meet some fantastic reptillian beasts! From 10am-4pm you can meet snakes, dragons and lizards. This activity is provided by Gary’s Reptiles.

Magical Creatures and Wonderful Monsters
Join storyteller Gordon the Toad for some old tales of wizardly goings on. There might be wicked spells and transformations. There might be tales of monsters and witches and wonders at midnight. There might just be the story of Something Horrible Over There. Exercise your own wizardly skills and help Gordon write a new set of spells - or curses. Suitable for families.
Venue: Coach House Studios, Under the Arch off West End

Fantastic Fused Glass and Where to Try It
Join local artist, Stevie Davies to make your own fantastic fused glass tile or hanging, from precut glass elements. 10 - 11am. 1 of 4 sessions at various times. This is currently the only live listing, nearer the time I will create the others.
Create your own colourful glass design inspired by logos, symbols and motifs from Harry Potter and all things Wizard themed. The cost includes all specialist materials and firing for a tile or hanging approx 9cm. Simply complete your design during the session and leave it at the studio for me to fire, finish and clean up for you. We will make arrangements for you to pick up your make a few weeks later or I can post your finished piece, at cost.
Things you might want to bring with you:
A bottle of water or travel cup of coffee/tea
An apron or old clothes so you don’t have to worry about getting glue or little bits of glass on them

Routemaster Bus Rides
Ride the Magical Routemaster Bus, the inspiration and model for the Knight Bus in the Prisoner of Azkaban. The bus will be driving through town all day. Hop on board at the Market Place and Memorial Hall bus stops. Stan the wizardly conductor or one of the wizarding school professors will collect your fare. Just £1 for as many rides as you like and all proceeds go to our official good causes - Foundation Derbyshire and Wirksworth Skatepark.

The Wizarding Specials
Travel to the Wirksworth Wizarding Day in style with our Wizarding Express trains! Set in 1950s carriages, some of them with compartments, we have steam and diesel hauled trains running from Duffield to Wirksworth and back.
At Wirksworth Station, we have Woodie's Wings owl rescue where you can get up close and meet real live owls. We also have our friends at Wild Roots Creative running Charm making workshops and Herbology potion making classes at various times during the day.

Character Costume Contest
Dress as your favourite wizard or witch and enter the Hall of Selection in St Mary’s for the chance to win prizes. Whether you come as a student or professor, from the ministry or a practitioner of the dark arts, you will be welcome. Categories for children and adults, prizes to be won. Compete for the overall Wizarding Day Cup, chosen from the category winners.

Ford Anglia
We have a Ford Anglia flying in for the day. This is the model as used in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Find it pretending to be an ordinary muggle car in the centre of town.
